Project Summary:

The International Business Development Program (IBDP) is a key initiative managed by the Economic Development Branch as part of the trade/export development and investment attraction activities identified in Council’s Economic Development Strategy.

The IBDP is aimed at expanding the city’s economy in global markets as well as promoting the city as a preferred location for investment and relocation.  The IBDP also provides a strong base for the development of a solid and strategic international connections program that fosters mutual economic and cultural benefits between our sister cities and other global partners.

This year’s IBDP included five outbound trade missions and four inbound missions.  Three of the outbound trade missions were strategically selected in our key market -  Dubai, United Arab Emirates as a result of the long standing Sister City relationship Gold Coast has established with Dubai.  The three outbound missions included:

  1. 25 - 28 January 2010 Arab Health, Dubai, UAE
  2. 23 - 26 February 2010 Gulf Food, Dubai, UAE
  3. 16 - 26 February 2010 Middle East Trade & Investment Roadshow

The International Business Development Program demonstrates that Sister City relationships, whilst traditionally successful in fostering cultural and friendship exchange, also represent a great opportunity to foster strong business and trade relationships with overseas markets.  Our Sister City relationship with Dubai Municipality is an excellent example of how Gold Coast City has encouraged trade and economic development as part of our Sister City relationship.
